Everybody is an Expert Now?

Cool. Show Me The Proof.

AI Gave Everyone The Tools. It Didn't Give Everyone The Experience.
AI exists, but it doesn't make you an expert

Home Depot Has The Tools.
That Doesn't Make You A Plumber.

AI Works The Same Way.

Home Depot has aisles filled with tools, parts and supplies. You can buy everything you need to fix a leaking pipe, repair an appliance or rebuild half your house. That doesn’t mean you know how to do any of those things. AI isn’t much different. It gives us access to extraordinary tools, information and capabilities. But access to a tool isn’t expertise. Knowing what to do with it is.

You Don't Get To Decide You're An Expert

I have a similar rule about being cool.

You don’t get to decide you’re cool. Other people decide you’re cool.

Expertise should work the same way.

It isn’t a title you give yourself. It’s demonstrated through experience, knowledge, judgment, curiosity, results and proof.

Knowing how to do something matters.

Understanding why you’re doing it, when to do it and whether it actually worked matters a whole lot more.

Scare Tactics Aren't Strategy

You've probably received the email.

“We analyzed your website and discovered serious SEO problems.” Oh no. 😱 Maybe there are problems. Maybe there aren’t. But before you panic, ask a few questions. What was analyzed? • Which searches matter? • Who are your competitors? • Is qualified organic traffic growing? • Which pages are being discovered? • Are visitors engaging? • Does Google understand what your company does? • Are AI platforms finding and understanding the business? A scary number without context is just a scary number. Real strategy starts by asking questions, not creating fear.

AI Changed Everything

AI can write copy, analyze data, research topics, generate code, evaluate ideas, identify patterns and accomplish in minutes what once took hours.

That’s incredible.

AI doesn’t magically turn someone into a marketer, designer, developer, SEO professional or advertising strategist.

Someone still needs to know what questions to ask.

Someone needs to recognize when the answer is wrong.

Someone needs to understand the customer, competition and business objective.

And ultimately, someone needs to decide what the hell we’re supposed to do with all that information.

AI Can Give You An Answer. Expertise Knows Whether It's The Right Answer.

We Use AI Too. A Lot.

Of course we do.

At Coolfish, AI helps us research deeper, analyze faster, challenge assumptions and develop ideas more efficiently. But it doesn’t replace the experience behind the process.

We determine what we’re trying to accomplish first. AI helps us get there faster.

  • Photoshop doesn’t make someone a designer.
  • WordPress doesn’t make someone a web expert.
  • Google Ads doesn’t make someone an advertising strategist.
  • And ChatGPT doesn’t make someone a marketing expert.

The tools keep changing. The principle doesn’t.

The tool helps you do the work. Experience tells you what work needs to be done.

So What Actually Makes Someone An Expert?

Of course we do.

EXPERIENCE
They’ve done the work enough times to know that every situation isn’t the same.

CURIOSITY
They ask questions before they start handing out answers.

KNOWLEDGE
They understand how the pieces connect, not just how one tool works.

JUDGMENT
They know what matters, what doesn’t and when something needs to change.

RESULTS
They can demonstrate that their thinking actually accomplished something.

PROOF
Because eventually, somebody should be able to say, “Show me.”

You Don't Have To Take Our Word For It.

At Coolfish, we’d rather show you what happened than spend a page telling you how brilliant we are.

We research. We question. We build. We measure. Then we adjust.
We’ve helped businesses expand organic visibility, build topical authority, appear across AI-driven search experiences and turn websites into something far more valuable than an online brochure.
And we have the analytics, search data and case studies to back it up.

The benefit: You aren’t hiring someone because they gave themselves an impressive title. You’re working with someone who understands the tools, understands the strategy and can show you what the work actually accomplished.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. AI can dramatically improve research, analysis, content development and efficiency, but it still requires human judgment. An experienced marketing professional understands what questions to ask, how the information applies to a specific business and what actions should be taken.

AI can assist with website design, development, content and code. However, an effective website still requires strategy, user experience, messaging, branding, search optimization and an understanding of what visitors need. Building pages and building an effective business website are not the same thing.

Look beyond titles and claims. Ask about experience, strategy, previous work, measurable results and how success is evaluated. Most importantly, ask for proof.

Tools provide capabilities. Expertise determines how those capabilities should be used. The same software, advertising platform or AI system can produce dramatically different results depending on the knowledge and judgment of the person using it.

Coolfish uses AI to support research, analysis, strategy, content development and other parts of the marketing process. AI improves efficiency and expands what can be analyzed, while human experience and judgment determine the strategy, execution and final decisions.
